I don't feel that my ears get overly warm as some headphones (some Sony and others) have been. Sides of the cups are no problem, the weave and material is very soft, even for long terms of wearing. The size and depth of my AirPods Max ear cups prevent my ears from touching the back of the cups. While not at royalty size, they are larger than when I was younger. There's also enough spring force on the ear cups to keep it secure, but not give me a pressure headache over time. You'll have to fit test and determine this for yourself. I have seen some posts where some had a bump or other feature on their cranium and the mesh didn't negate the pressure of the metal frame of the mesh irritating their scalp over time. The way it sets on my head, the mesh does a great job of making you not notice the weight and it's very comfortable. That said, the weight is well handled by the design of the headband and mesh. I've worn a number of wireless headphones over the years and most have been lighter. However my experience may be different as each individuals head has a different shape (while I don't believe it, enough differences for phrenology to have been a thing). I have a sensitive head, even wrinkles in a pillow case will disrupt my sleep for example. As for comfort/sensitive scalp I'd recommend seeing if you can have someone loan you an AirPods Max, or if the Apple Store near you isn't too busy try to demo the headset for a longer period of time. Reading through the reddit post and notice that the focus is on the sound and ANC features. I have listened to them in the Apple Store for 5 minutes and was blown away but it’s hard to tell how comfortable they will be for extended listening sessions. I can currently get the black AirPods Max on sale for £426 so it’s tempting. Or should I wait until the Bose QC45s are released within the next couple of months? So I was wondering if the AirPods Max, with their mesh style headband, will be suitable for me given their extra weight. The Bose QC and AirPods Max I tried both have deeper earcups. Also the earpieces aren’t deep enough on the Sony’s as my ears brush against the cloth in front of the drivers, which doesn’t bother me too much but it’s still noticeable. I used to have a pair of Bose QC35 II which had a softer headband and were therefore more comfortable for longer periods. Unfortunately I get pain on the top of my head after about 20 minutes or so, which forces me to adjust their position every now and then. So I currently have the Sony WH-1000 XM4s which sound great and do the job with noise cancelling, but my problem with them is comfort.
